If you’re like me, you probably open your inbox from time to time to find it full of stuff you don’t care about. You definitely won’t be clicking any link. But ever so often, you encounter that gem. That kind of email doesn’t happen by accident.
In this article we’ll show you how to write an email that people open, read, and act on.
1. Use a Reliable Reply-to Email Address
One common mistake is using a ‘no-reply@’ email address. This tells your recipients that you’re not interested in engaging with them. Basically, you tell recipients they are just a number to you.
What to do Instead: Use a real email address that makes recipients feel like they’re talking to a real person.
2. Personalize Your Content
No one likes a generic email. Whether it’s addressing the recipient by name or talking about a specific pain point, personalization makes all the difference.
If you’re a print company targeting clients who care about colour precision, don’t just say “Better Prints.” Instead, say something like, “Hey John, still struggling with Colour Accuracy? We’ve Got the Solution.”
3. Keep It Short and Sweet
No one wants to read a novel in their inbox. Keep your emails concise and to the point. A clear, compelling call-to-action (CTA) should always follow your message. Pick one thing you want them to do. Don’t ask for a download and a meeting and a follow. Just one thing:

Make it easy.
4. Design for mobile
You probably write your email text on a desktop. Don’t forget, over half your readers are opening their email on a phone. Big text, tappable buttons, and no walls of tiny text.
